What artwork do you need to print my design?

What artwork do you need?

A vector file if you have one — AI, EPS, SVG or vector PDF. Otherwise the highest-resolution image you can find. Both work; vector works better.

A vector file describes shapes mathematically, so it is as sharp at 5 mm as at 500 mm. That is why it is the right thing for a logo. A photograph is made of pixels and holds a fixed amount of detail, which is fine — photographs print well — but it cannot be enlarged past what it contains.

Why is the logo from my website not good enough?

Web images are deliberately small so pages load quickly. A logo that looks crisp on screen is often 200 pixels wide, which prints about the size of a postage stamp.

If that is all you have, tell us. We can usually redraw a logo as vector art from a small image, and for a simple mark that takes minutes rather than hours. It is a far better outcome than printing something blurry and both of us politely not mentioning it.

What should I check before approving a proof?

Spelling of names, dates, and anything you typed yourself. We check the printing; only you can check that the name is right.

An approved proof is what we make. A reprint caused by a spelling mistake that got through approval is chargeable, which nobody enjoys, so it is worth thirty seconds reading it properly.

Does the colour of the item matter?

Less than you would think. We lay white ink down first, so a full-colour design works on black anodised metal as well as on pale birch.

This is a real advantage of UV printing over transfers and sublimation, which need a light or specially coated surface. It is why we can put your logo in its actual colours on a black tool case or a clear acrylic award.

What file format do you need for printing?

Vector files are best: AI, EPS, SVG or a vector PDF. Those scale to any size without going fuzzy. A high-resolution PNG or JPEG is fine for photographs.

What resolution does a photo need to be?

Around 300 dpi at the printed size. For a 60 mm wide print that means roughly 700 pixels across. A logo saved from a website is usually far too small.

Can you print white ink?

Yes, and it matters more than people expect: white laid down first is what makes colour show properly on dark, clear or wood surfaces. Metallic and fluorescent inks we do not run.

Can you match my exact brand colours?

Close, but not exactly — UV printing cannot hit every Pantone. We show you a proof, and on larger runs print a sample first so nothing is a surprise.
